Within the time span of 10 minutes, I heard 2 spiritual sermons as I moved from kitchen to living room. The first one brought tears to my eyes and I felt great. I felt great mainly because I am always worried of getting too detached from religion. The fact that I get tearful and my throat constricts when hearing a good reading of the holy book is relaxing. The fact that most times I help and do good not because I have to or want the 'rewards' or to go to heaven but because I want to do good, I want to do what's right and because it feels right.
Now, the second sermon was a bit worrying and actually angered me. The preacher was crying and all the people behind him were crying from fear of judgement day. Please do not get me wrong but I believe we should look at things from a different angle. We shouldn't be afraid of death and the day of judgement. We should look forward to dying so as to meet GOD. We should do good not because we are afraid of burning in hell but because we love GOD and are doing the good deeds to prove our love. We should be driven towards religion and piety not out of fear but out of love. Don't you agree?
