I've only had 3 hours worth of sleep in the past days but it was somehow worth it. I had my first camping in the desert experience. With only a mobile phone and my car keys, I ditched my family and opted to spend time with nice enough people and it was quiet an experience. I literally slept under the stars and it is as magical as everyone has seldom described. If you stare long enough into the sky at night, it feels like you're falling into a deep sea. The evening's entertainment included a 2am barbecue, chitchatting, truth or dare, fortune telling etc. The funniest was trying to find a low spot to wee.
And as much as I regreted the wee bits, it wasn't that bad. Actually, it was absolutely fine. I got used to it so quickly. I loved the silence of the night. It had such a calming effect and I wasn't frightened of the darkness at all because it was nearing a full moon and the sky was illuminated.
Romantic? Yes oh yes. Survivable? Definitely. I forgot about moisturisers, lip balm, hand wipes, makeup, bidets. I now understand better how people lived in the older days without, air-conditioning, modern-day appliances, electricity and were able to travel at night.
But the most beautiful feeling was waking up an hour after sunrise, peeking from under the blanket with half sleepy eyes and looking down the sand dunes. It was breathtaking.
I just wish I was able to perform my prayers in that peaceful bliss. No distractions, just me on my prayer mat worshipping GOD.
So for now, I am loving the idea of camping in the desert with good company.
Till we meet again,
Sedeso
